Earth Day Celebrations – April 22 2017. EARTH DAY is a day set aside by the United Nations to remind us that we need to take care of planet Earth and its resources for the existence of mankind and biodiversity. It is also a day we come together to renew our collective resolve as people of the world living on planet earth and who are ready to imbibe the 1992, Rio Declaration – to promote harmony with nature and the Earth in order to achieve a balance in the key areas of sustainable development. This year Climate Aid Initiative a Non-Governmental
Organization led other environment inclined NGOs along with CENTER FOR EARLY GREEN EDUCATION to two major higher institutions in Lagos State – University of Lagos, Akoka and Lagos State University, Ojo.
It was an opportunity for public awareness and campaigns concerning the well-being of planet Earth and what we can do to help. Three activities took place, a symposium, nature walk and tree planting exercise. The theme of 2017 Earth day celebrations was “Environment and Climate Literacy”.
